All of the Tree Green Team furniture pieces are constructed from real trees and solid slabs of wood and professionally dried to 6-8% moisture content before any build. We prefer and actually seek out wood with cracks, twists and variation in color. This is the inherent character of wood and is not considered a defect in material. All our pieces are constructed of 100% organic slabbed wood. Solid wood adjusts different times of the year to the moisture content of the air. "Oh Canada"  In a sense the wood breathes just like us. Wood will also adjust to the moisture content of your home and it surroundings. You may notice your slab furniture piece move ever so slightly or even develop small cracks or dips. THIS IS NORMAL If you have purchased a table with extensions you make find that over time they may not fit as smoothly as when first purchased. Slab furniture can not be compared to other solid wood furniture pieces. Organic wood furniture will have movement during its life and this is just the nature of natural wood slab furniture. A dry home may cause the wood to move or crack more than a home with proper humidity levels. Be sure your home has proper humidity levels through out the year. You can purchase a humidity meter from most local hardware stores and we strongly urge you to check before the arrival of your furniture piece. Keep in mind that wood does have a life of its own and even with proper measures taken in the environment and by our team in the construction process, you may notice some movement. Cracks and any bark lift can be easily fixed by placing wood putty in with a plastic putty knife. Simply tape the outside edge of the crack and fill. Some cracks or splits can be highlighted by dabbing black stain in the crack.
Feel free to contact the team with any questions you may have concerning your furniture piece.
If you notice surface cracks....this is normal. If you notice some cracking on the ends this is also normal activity for solid wood organic furniture.

To avoid excessive warping or cracking after you begin using wood table tops or counters a cool environment
(72 degrees) with a relative humidity of about 45-55% and a little bit of air movement is said to be ideal for wood objects in general. Change thermostat settings gradually as seasons change. A sudden change in temperature or humidity is the worst thing possible as moisture will be sucked out of or pushed into the material far too quickly causing tension inside it. Excess heat and dryness can even cause cracking and splitting. Avoid extremely hot plates and excessive water allowed to stand for long periods of time. Also avoid vinyl table cloths and glass tops as they can prevent air circulation and may cause warping.
It is also important to remember that placing your piece in front of a window in direct sunlight can dry out your piece and cause cracking and splits.

The main causes of damage to wooden furniture are careless handling and environmental conditions in the surroundings of your wood piece. Once again please keep in mind that movement just as small cracks in the surface of your live edge furniture piece is NORMAL and part of the nature of the wood. You may notice lifting on the epoxy or resin fills. This is from the natural movement of the wood also.

Light is a natural enemy of all organic materials; it is especially harmful for wood because the damage is cumulative (meaning it gets worse over time) and irreversible. Light can turn light woods dark, and bleach out dark woods. It can also affect the finish, stain, or paint on the surface—leaving it discoloured, opaque, cracked, or brittle. Leaving you wood piece in direct sunlight ie....huge windows with lot of sunlight all day long will not be good for your table, It may warp and crack. We suggest blinds or a sheet covering if leaving exposed to direct sunlight on a on going basis. Also, it is important NOT to place hot mugs or plates directly on the wood surface as it may mark the finish. We also would advise that you avoid placing your wood piece on flooring that has in floor heating. Especially with wood legs. The constant heat on the wood absorbs any of the moisture left in the wood and will further promote splitting and cracking. Tree Green Team does not warrant any furniture pieces purchased and placed on in-floor heating. TGT does NOT warrant tables that have custom bases built or supplied outside of the team shop. It is advised to contact the TGT prior to choosing a custom leg to see if it would work for your custom top. There are many variables that are considered when designing legs for live edge furniture. It is important that the table top be supported in such a way to allow stability for natural wood.

Wood is composed of cellulose (a molecule with an affinity for water) and it is porous; as a result it is vulnerable to humidity. When moisture in the air increases (i.e. humidity rises), wood absorbs water and swells a little; when the air dries out (i.e. humidity decreases), wood gives off moisture and shrinks. These responses to changes in humidity weaken glue joins, can cause wood to split or crack, and may damage its finish.

We advise that you check the humidity of your home to assure that your table is always in the best possible environment. Follow this link for some useful tips and ways to ensure proper humidity.

If you develop a constructional problem with your wood piece and it has been within 2 months of purchasing from the
Tree Green Team....we will gladly access and repair any craftsmanship defects found and will advise on natural organic slab issues. Tree Green Team does not have control over the movement of wood. We will request to see photos of your piece to help determine the issue you are having with it and will advise to have a meter reading of the air quality of the room where the wood piece resides. All warranty issues must be brought back to our shop in Collingwood and if the piece is to be left for us to work on...the buyer is also responsible for pick up and of delivery costs.

Below are some images of natural movement that may appear in your pieces. This is not a craftsmanship defect of a natural occurrence of organic wood.

If you have purchased a wood slab countertop it must be properly mounted to cabinetry with any overhang being supported by brackets as per recommendation. We will not be held responsible  for damages occurred by improper install. It is advised you contact the team if installing a counter top.

If your table has extensions please note that the extensions will most likely have movement over time especially if not used often. The result could be that the fit of the extensions might be stiff and change form. Please store the extensions is flat spot and do not lean. Make sure they are treated the same as you treat your table top. If you plan on storing your table it MUST have the legs assembled and stored to assure the top does not have to much movement. TGT is not responsible for damages that may occur from improper storage or from stored in crate without base.

Repair charges will be billed at a cost of $65/hr outside of the Tree Green Team warranty and will be noted before any repairs are made.

Tree Green Team does not offer refunds or exchanges on any custom orders of furniture.

All deposits made to the Tree Green Team on are NON REFUNDABLE.

IF YOU TABLE HAD BEEN SHIPPED VIA TRANSPORT, YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE INSTALLATION OF THE LEGS! TABLES WILL NOT BE SHIPPED WITH LEGS INSTALLED.

Please follow these steps and call Eddie if you have any questions prior to attempting to install. (416)-358-1778

Please note that on any transport of goods we are working on your behalf and can only provide you with the same info given from the transporter. Tree Green Team is not responsible for lost or damaged goods during transport.

Tools you will need

1. Impact gun or impact drill (not a regular drill as it will snap the screws).

2. 7/16 impact drive bit. Screws and washers will be supplied inside your shipment.

3. You will need help to flip the table. We suggest a minimum of two men.

Make sure table is bottom up where you can see the pilot holes. Best to place on work horses (make sure there is blankets to protect the top) or if the piece is small enough you can use a carpeted floor. You will notice that the legs prior to unwrapping should be taped indication a,b or 1,2. Align the pilot holes with the pre-drilled holes. Before attempting to drill into the pre drilled holes make sure that all the holes align perfectly.

Manually insert the screws provided in all holes to make sure that alignment is proper. Once aligned properly use a impact gun to install the lag screws SLOWLY. If you feel a lot of resistance back off and go forward again. Washers should not be loose when properly installed. Should be snug against the screw and the material of the leg.

It is a two man job to flip the table over. Will need to be done in the air or on work house so that there is no weight on the table legs. The screws will snap if any pressure is put on the legs.

Please call or email Eddie if you have any questions at all. Please do not to attempt to install the legs if you are unsure of any of the directions.

Please contact the TREE GREEN TEAM if you have any questions: Below are some sample pictures of movement one may experience over the life time of organic slab furniture piece.
