& Care/Facts

  1. IMPORTANT: PLEASE ensure that table tops are placed on their base within a day of arrival. This will ensure that no warping occurs. If the table has sat in the crate and/or was not put on the base within a day of arrival, TGT is not responsible for any costs related to repairing/replacing tables that have been damaged due to not assembling the base to the tabletop promptly.

  3. Please note that a resin river or epoxy fill-in is a layered liquid pour that is time-consuming and consists of layering the material over a period of time.  You might notice some dimples, bubbles and imperfections in your river which is to be expected in resin fills. You may also find some separation between the resin and the wood as the wood naturally moves. This is not to be considered imperfections or errors in craftsmanship. Never use cleaning products on the river or resin fills. Just a damp cloth.

  4. Use only warm water on a soft cloth to clean your table. This will ensure that no chemicals react with your piece. If you have cleaners that come into your office or home you might want to leave a small note on the table to assure no chemicals are used on the table.

  5. Spotting in your river table resin is not considered a craftsmanship defect. All pieces go through extensive quality insurance before being packed up for delivery.

  6. All of the Tree Green Team furniture pieces are constructed from real trees and solid slabs of wood that have been professionally kiln dried to 6-8% moisture after being air-dried for a year, prior to construction.

  7. Solid wood will move depending on the humidity. "Oh Canada". In a sense, the wood breathes just like us. Wood will also adjust to the moisture content of your home/office and its surroundings. You may notice your slab furniture piece move ever so slightly or even develop cracks or dips. THIS IS NORMAL ACTIVITY.

  10.  Slab furniture can not be compared to other solid wood furniture pieces. Organic wood furniture will have movement during its life and this is just the nature of natural wood slab furniture. A dry home/office/cottage may cause the wood to move or crack more than a home with proper humidity levels. Be sure your space has proper humidity levels throughout the year. You can purchase a humidity meter from most local hardware stores and we strongly urge you to check before the arrival of your furniture piece. Keep in mind that wood does have a life of its own and even with proper measures taken in the environment and by our team in the construction process, you may notice movement and changes regardless.

  11.  Cracks and any bark lift can be easily fixed by placing wood putty in with a plastic putty knife. Simply tape the outside edge of the crack and fill. Some hairline cracks or splits can be highlighted by dabbing black stains in the crack or using some wood filler.  If you notice a scratch or require a touch up you can do so by applying oil given by the TGT to mend if you have an oil rub finish. If you have questions. Please text 705.607.0787

  12. If you notice surface cracks, this is normal. If you notice some cracking on the ends this is also normal along with the lifting of epoxy or resin in parts. this is a normal natural activity for solid wood organic furniture is not a craftsmanship defect by Tree Green Team. This happens as the wood moves.

  13. To avoid excessive warping or cracking after you begin using wood table tops or counters a cool environment (72 degrees) with a relative humidity of about 45-55% and a little bit of air movement is said to be ideal for wood objects in general.

  14. Change thermostat settings gradually as seasons change. A sudden change in temperature or humidity is the worst thing possible as moisture will be sucked out of or pushed into the material far too quickly causing tension inside it. Excess heat and dryness can even cause cracking and splitting. Avoid extremely hot plates and excessive water allowed to stand for long periods of time. Also, avoid vinyl table cloths and glass tops as they can prevent air circulation and may cause warping.

  15. It is also important to remember that placing your piece in front of a window in direct sunlight can dry out your piece and could promote cracking and splits.

  16. The main causes of damage to wooden furniture are careless handling and environmental conditions in the surroundings of your wood piece. Once again please keep in mind that movement just as small cracks in the surface of your live edge furniture piece is NORMAL and part of the nature of the wood. You may notice lifting on the epoxy or resin fills. This is from the natural movement of the wood also and you can simply add some wood filler in the space.

  17. Light is a natural enemy of all organic materials; it is especially harmful to wood because the damage is cumulative (meaning it gets worse over time) and irreversible. Light can turn light woods dark, and bleach out dark woods. It can also affect the finish, stain, or paint on the surface—leaving it discoloured, opaque, cracked, or brittle. Leaving your wood piece in direct sunlight, ie. huge windows with a lot of sunlight all day long will not be good for your table, it may warp and crack. We suggest blinds or a sheet covering if leaving exposed to direct sunlight on an ongoing basis.

  18. We advise that you avoid placing your wood furniture piece on in-floor heating. Especially a table with a wood base. The constant heat on the wood absorbs any of the moisture left in the wood top and will further promote splitting and cracking.

  19. Tree Green Team does not warrant any furniture pieces purchased and placed on in-floor heating. TGT does NOT warrant tables that have custom bases built or supplied outside of the team shop.

  20. It is advised to contact the TGT prior to choosing a custom leg to see if it would work for your crafted top. There are many variables that are considered when designing bases for live edge furniture. It is important that the tabletop be supported in such a way to allow stability for natural wood.

  21. Wood is composed of cellulose (a molecule with an affinity for water) and it is porous; as a result, it is vulnerable to humidity. When moisture in the air increases (i.e. humidity rises), wood absorbs water and swells a little; when the air dries out (i.e. humidity decreases), wood gives off moisture and shrinks. These responses to changes in humidity weaken glue joints, can cause wood to split or crack and may damage its finish.

  22. We advise that you check the humidity of your space regularly to assure that your table is always in the best possible environment.

  23. If you develop a craftmanship constructional problem with your wood piece and it has been within 1 month of purchasing from the Tree Green Team, we will gladly access and repair any craftsmanship defects found and will advise on natural organic slab issues. Tree Green Team does not have control over the movement of wood. We will request to see photos of your piece to help determine the issue you are having with it and will advise having a meter reading of the air quality of the room where the wood piece resides.

  24. All constructional warranty issues must be brought back to our shop in Meaford. If the piece is to be left for us to work on, the buyer is also responsible for pick-up and delivery costs.

  25. All custom pieces will be approved before shipping. TGT does not offer refunds.

  26. Below are some images of natural movement that may appear in your piece. These instances are not considered craftsmanship defects but rather, natural occurrences of organic wood.

  27. If you have purchased a wood slab countertop it must be properly mounted to cabinetry with an overhang being supported by brackets as per recommendation. We will not be held responsible for damages that occurred by improper installation. It is advised you contact the team if installing a countertop.

  28. If your table has extensions please note that the extensions will most likely have moved over time especially if not used often. The result could be that the fit of the extensions might be stiff and change form. Please store the extensions in a flat spot and do not lean. Make sure they are treated the same as you treat your tabletop. If you plan on storing your table it MUST have the legs assembled and stored to assure the top does not have too much movement. TGT is not responsible for damages that may occur from improper storage or from being stored in the packing crate.

  29. Repair charges will be billed at a cost of $65/hr outside of the Tree Green Team warranty and will be noted before any repairs are made.

  30. Tree Green Team does not offer refunds or exchanges on any custom orders of furniture.

  31. All deposits made to the Tree Green Team are NON-REFUNDABLE. TGT is not responsible for defects that are caused by shipping or any damages that may occur. We will pack & crate with the best of care to assure that property is secured.
